What is Anat Baniel Method® (ABM) NeuroMovement®?
Anat Baniel Method® (ABM) NeuroMovement® is a holistic, movement-based approach to human functioning, learning and development. ABM understands movement to be the language of the brain. Movement functions as a stimulus providing information to the brain that the brain then organizes into thoughts, actions, feelings and emotions.
From this understanding, NeuroMovement® was developed as a means for upgrading the brain functionality. Rather than changing behavior, this method provides the brain (through movement) the opportunity to improve its ability to organize, differentiate and manage complexity.
Slow gentle movements stimulate the nervous system and invite the brain to begin mapping the body. This mapping process helps organize the nervous system and harnesses the power of the brain to change itself (plasticity), which ultimately leads to enhanced physical, cognitive and emotional functioning.
Anat Baniel is a trained psychotherapist and dancer, and was a close professional associate of Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais. Unsatisfied with the traditional “talk therapy,” Anat looked to impact the functional well-being of people through movement and communicating with the brain.
Her search led her to Dr. Moshé Feldenkrais—the founder of the Feldenkrais Method. Through her years as a teacher and trainer, Anat evolved her original training in the Feldenkrais Method into the Anat Baniel Method® NeuroMovement® which combines the teachings of Dr. Feldenkrais with her own understanding and techniques based on the science of brain plasticity.
Who can benefit from NeuroMovement®?
